Original Title: Die Erfindung der Liebe
Synopsis
The Invention of Love is the story of an eccentric ménage-à-trois. Emily and Daniel heroically save the life of a terminally ill millionaire, not realizing that the woman was actually trying to commit suicide. Emily, who is young, ambitious, creative but penniless, comes up with the idea for her boyfriend to seduce the millionaire to get their hands on her inheritance. Unfortunately love cannot be controlled, so when Daniel and the millionaire really do fall in love, Emily loses a lot more than she had bargained for… A bizarre story of love sold.

As a many-sided talent he did the chronicle “Black Dju” (1996) with Philippe Leotard, Richard Courcet and Cesaria Evora and also followed the call of Hollywood and did the movie “Boys on the Run” (2001) with Ron Perlman (Hellboy). PRODUCTION NOTES
The Invention of Love is an extraordinary story, both on and off screen. Unprecedented obstacles during production dictated the course of events. Maria Kwiatkowsky, the main actress, died after 23 days of shooting, leaving behind an almost finished film. After the initial shock, director Lola Randl, took up the challenge and re-wrote her script. She created additional characters, filmed new scenes, re-edited and completely re-invented „The Invention of Love“ using existing scenes, combined with her new material. The resulting film is both, tender and unyielding, a film showing the passion, tragedy, failure and success of filmmaking, while staying true to the original plot. – A film that really happened!
