Synopsis

The fifties in a small village in the Dolomites. Domenico, premature and introverted, lives together with his father Pietro, who’s alcoholic and an outsider in the village community. One night, a peasant’s stall gets struck by another attack of the “diàol”, a savage bear that kills sheep and fuels the superstitious fear of the villagers. Pietro seizes his last chance to regain his reputation and ventures out to kill the animal alone. But Domenico won’t allow his father to abandon him for good.

Marco Segato (Padua, 1973) graduated in Literature at the University of Padua with a thesis on Martin Scorsese and attended the Documentary Masters at the Public School of Cinema in Milan. In 2007, he was assistant director to Carlo Mazzacurati’s film LA GUISTA DISTANZA. For Jolefilm, the production company he has been collaborating with for several years, Segato directed the documentaries CI RESTA IL NOME (2007) and VIA ANELLI (2008). His other documentary credits include ORA SI FERMA IL VENTO (2011) and L’UOMO CHE AMAVA IL CINEMA (2012), which was screened at the Venice International Film Festival. ON THE TRAIL OF MY FATHER is Segato’s feature debut.
